Cooperage Wall Mirror longlisted for homeware design category

This project, the Seitz Cooperage Wall Mirror, is made from solid European ash. Influenced by a classic Fahreimer (Alpine milking pail), the mirror's inner frame reveals 16 geometric facets—referencing traditional construction methods.

In contrast, the round exterior is held together by a wooden belt. At first glance, the mirror may appear to be simple and streamlined, but the frame's exterior reveals the handiwork of a dying craft in Switzerland—dating back to the 18th century.

Each frame is individually carved with heritage Swiss patterns through this craft of "Schnitzerei" in Appenzell. There are only five individuals who still practice the craft in Eastern Switzerland.
